ALBERTA IMMIGRANT NOMINEE PROGRAM (AINP)
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) allows workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs to settle in Alberta permanently. Recently, it has been a very appealing option for newcomers to Canada. The latest government data shows that the province of Alberta has surpassed British Columbia as the second most popular immigration destination in Canada, after Ontario.
AINP Streams
The AINP accepts applications under three streams: Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS), Express Entry (EE), and the Self-Employed Farmer Stream.
1. Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
This stream simplifies the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) application process, thereby reducing waiting times and creates an opportunistic system for both candidates and employers.
Criteria to be eligible
Have at least 12 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months; or 24 months full-time work experience in your current occupation outside of Alberta within the last 30 months.
Have a valid work permit based on a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or be a participant of temporary work permit programs.
Have at least the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 language ability in all four categories (writing, reading, listening, speaking).
Have completed a minimum of Alberta standard high school education equivalent
2. Alberta Express Entry Stream (AB EE)
This stream allows Alberta to nominate a limited number of qualified candidates from the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada’s Express Entry system. Candidates who have demonstrated strong ties to Alberta or who can help support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities may be asked to submit an application.
Criteria to be eligible
Candidates may only apply if they have demonstrated the following requirements:
Have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool.
Meet the criteria of at least one of the federal immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trade Program, or Canadian Experience Class.
Be able and intend to live and work in Alberta.
Be working in an occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities.
Have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.
3. Self-employed Farmer Stream
This stream targets candidates with farm management skills and a willingness to invest an essential sum of money in Alberta. Applications representing the best opportunities for agricultural growth in Alberta will be given top priority.
Criteria to be eligible
Candidates need to prove that they have farm management experience, which may include:
Financial documents of an existing farm business.
Documentation of farming education, training, or work experience.
A proposed business plan for the farming enterprise they are considering in Alberta.
Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance the candidates’ proposed farming business.
